I spent January 2018 travelling around the top of New Zealand’s South Island. It was nice. Here are some photos…
Whanganui inlet. Taken from Knuckle hill Black blobs are swans Can see farewell spit and the sounds Freedom camping near Puponga After a running part of the Heaphy Not sure where this is pointing… Sailsbury bridge (spent a few days here) Home for a few weeks Sweaty Awaroa inlet Bark bay. Broke fall with phone on the way… Camping on Onetahuti beach Tannins after lots of rain Walking around in my underwear thinking I was going to be the only person at Boulder lake hut. Helicopter with tourists drops by for 10 mins. First wash in ~3 days Flooded track Boulder lake. Was very glad to see this, the track is not the best, and rather precarious in places. Waterfall on the way from John Tait hut to Lake Rotoiti. Track said 80m, but I didnt realise it meatn 80m vertical… Blue lake. Went swimming in it although I found out later that it isnt allowed… opps. Probably the coldest water I have ever been in. Lake Rotoroa
I am not sure what I hoped to get out of the trip, but I didn’t find it particularly relaxing or exciting. I spent some time feeling guilty and stressed that I was lounging around and not studying. And the rest reading various books and stories.
